Cultivating Communities of Higher Consciousness with Humble Bloom and Aster Farms
HB Field Trip at Aster Farms | Written By: Humble Bloom
This fall, we traveled across the country and into the unknown. Trusting in the bonds we forged with cannabis community leaders, activists, farmers, founders, sustainable textile producers/artists, and wellness practitioners through blind emails, referrals, instagram DMs, and zoom video conference calls.
These individuals put their confidence in us to collaboratively create a container, even if only for a weekend, where the seeds of healing earth and community could take root.
And together, we did that. With the smoldering hills of the Kincade Fire as the backdrop, 40 people identifying as queer, gender nonconforming, Black, White, Native, Asian and Latinx, who ranged in age from early 20s to late 40s let go to find a common language through the plant and unselfishly contributed their gifts.
We opened ourselves to learning from each other. Knowing that through knowledge sharing communities grow and thrive.
Whether it was sustainable land stewardship and the power of terpenes, activism, equity and social justice, local and indigenous history, land theft, journaling, co-creating a floral mandala or shedding tears during a powerful breathwork session - everyone led with unobstructed hearts and malleable minds.
And even in our little cocoon, we felt the surrounding environmental trauma. We witnessed the PTSD of Aster Farms team as they wondered which way the wind would blow and if Kincade would mirror Mendocino Complex. We lost power on Saturday and had to conserve generator energy. Sunday's Flow Cannabis Institute Tour was canceled due to 101 closures. Some participants were rerouted on their way home, experiencing 3 hour + delays, trying to reunite with families or just catch a flight.
Through it all we facilitated meaningful connections with people who came from as close as San Francisco, Humboldt, and Santa Rosa to as far as Texas, Minnesota, and New York to find community through cannabis education.
We are grateful to all who believe in the work we are doing. From our sponsors (Aster Farms, Fine Healing Goods, Flow Kana, shade, and Tree Femme Collective) to the other knowledge sharers, to our new friends at the Lodge at Blue Lakes and our sister Chelsea Vaughn who PA'd her butt off - Thank you. Your support is invaluable.
Let's continue to bloom consciously together. Stay in touch with us on FB, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
